Foundations Training
This training introduces the core principles and hands-on experience of working with touch in therapy through InterSoma.
Blending theory and practice, it emphasizes experiential learning, embodiment, and the development of the therapist’s presence.
At the heart of this work is learning how to create an embodied, attachment-based connection with your client—one that allows direct access to the client’s child part and opens the door for deep, relational healing.
You’ll learn to read somatic and energetic patterns, and to combine attunement, experiential interventions, and touch to support transformation beyond words.
An essential part of the journey is your own process—exploring your attachment patterns and strengthening your capacity to stay present, open, and attuned.
Module 1: Foundations of Somatic Psychotherapy and InterSoma (online)
This module lays the foundation for embodied, attachment-based presence in your work.
You’ll learn to connect the client’s challenges with the presence of their child and protective parts, and track how these parts show up in the body.
We introduce a clear framework for working with trauma, attachment wounds, and other developmental challenges—and how to work with these patterns in a somatic and relational way.
Students will explore the core principles of attachment through their own embodied experience, expanding their capacity for connection, attunement, and intuitive presence.
This module also covers the ethics of touch and how to begin integrating it into your sessions with clarity and care.
Module 2: Connection & Listening Touch
(in person)
This in-person module brings the work into direct, hands-on experience.
Building on the foundations of embodied presence and attachment, you’ll learn how to combine attunement, experiential interventions, and touch to create safety, support regulation, and facilitate attachment repair.
Through guided practice, you’ll deepen your ability to connect with the client’s child part, soften protective patterns, and access deeper emotional layers.
You’ll learn different ways to offer attuned, caring touch that meets the client’s developmental and emotional needs.
We also focus on how to guide a full session—from verbal connection into embodied contact and integration—so the work becomes fluid, grounded, and deeply effective.

The training includes five online days and five in-person days.
Online Meeting Dates: Fridays - Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30, 2026 | 8:30 am to 11:30 am and 1 pm to 4 pm PST (sessions will be recorded)
In-person Meeting Dates: November. 5th through 9th, 2026 | 9:30 am - 5:00 pm PST. Training will be held in Sacred Streams, Berkeley, CA.
Cost: Regular registration: $2700. Early registration: $2500 if signed up by August 21st. Returning Tamura Method Students: $1700.
**The above rates include a non-refundable deposit of $250. Payment can be made as a one-time fee or in a 3-month payment plan. Space is limited.
CEs for Psychologists, LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT will be offered for an additional $150 fee. See below for more information on CEs.

50% refund (minus the non-refundable $250 deposit and a $40 administrative fee): Cancellations submitted by email between August 2nd and September 15th.

No refund: Cancellations received after September 15th, or in the case of non-attendance.
Please note that tuition does not cover travel-related expenses, and those costs are not reimbursable under any circumstances — including illness, travel delays, or other unforeseen events.
In the unlikely event that minimum enrollment is not met, we will cancel the training and issue a full tuition refund to all registered participants. We genuinely appreciate your understanding of these boundaries. They allow us to hold the integrity of the training and ensure a quality experience for everyone involved.

CE credits for psychologists are provided by Polaris Insight Center, which is sponsoring this program. The American Psychological Association approves Polaris Insight Center as a sponsor of continuing education for psychologists. Polaris Insight Center maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts CE credits for LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT license renewal for programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association.

LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs, and LMFTs, and other mental health professionals from states other than California need to check with their state licensing board as to whether or not they accept programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association.

Learning Objectives for the InterSoma Foundations Training
1. Demonstrate the capacity for grounded, centered, and open-hearted therapeutic presence as the foundation for somatic and relational clinical interventions.
2. Distinguish between the three layers of self — authentic self, emotional sensitivity, and protective patterning — as they manifest in a client's body, relational behavior, and emotional presentation.
3. Apply somatic tracking techniques — including observation of posture, breath, muscle tone, and movement — to identify and reflect clinically relevant patterns during client sessions.
4. Employ the six principles of secure attachment to establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship that supports the client's developmental healing.
5. Apply ethical guidelines governing the use of therapeutic touch — including informed consent, cultural considerations, and scope of practice — across the three forms of touch utilized in this training: supportive, listening, and directive contact.
6. Design and implement therapeutic interventions that guide clients into an embodied, present-focused state in which corrective emotional experiences — addressing unmet developmental needs — can be accessed and integrated.
